The non-profit Ernst Barlach Gesellschaft Hamburg was founded in 1946 to protect, disseminate and keep alive the artistic and literary heritage of Ernst Barlach against the background of two German states. Over decades, it has established two museums in Schleswig-Holstein as reliable public cultural institutions: the Ernst Barlach Museum Ratzeburg and the Ernst Barlach Museum Wedel.

Through international exhibition projects in cooperation with the diplomatic missions and the Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Ernst Barlach Society brings together partners from the fields of culture, business and politics. It conducts research projects and develops new educational formats such as FACE ART-FACE FUTURE and BARLACH GoYoung in the fields of art, culture, history and sustainability.
